Overview of the Global Sustainable Energy Market

The global sustainable energy market is undergoing a historic transformation. As of 2025, renewables are projected to generate over 35% of the world’s electricity, up from just 28% five years ago (International Energy Agency, IEA). The transition toward clean energy is now not just a climate imperative but a powerful driver of economic growth, energy security, and technological innovation.

Global investment in clean energy technologies—including solar, wind, hydropower, bioenergy, and green hydrogen—is expected to exceed USD 2 trillion in 2025, representing a new high (BloombergNEF). More than 80% of new power capacity added worldwide now comes from renewable sources, reflecting a structural shift in global energy systems.

The Asia-Pacific region leads this growth, contributing nearly 50% of all new renewable energy capacity, driven by strong commitments from China, India, ASEAN nations, and South Korea. Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia are emerging as regional green energy hubs, supported by favorable policies and cross-border grid integration efforts.

Meanwhile, energy storage systems (ESS) and smart grid technologies are becoming essential components in building resilient, low-carbon energy infrastructure. Global deployment of battery storage is projected to reach over 550 GW by 2030, ensuring reliability and flexibility in power supply.

The push toward Net Zero emissions continues to gain momentum, with over 90 countries now pledging carbon neutrality targets. Major corporations are also joining the movement, integrating ESG goals and sustainability-linked KPIs into their core strategies. The global carbon credit market is projected to reach USD 100 billion by 2030, providing new financial incentives for decarbonization.

Additionally, green finance is reshaping investment portfolios worldwide. Instruments such as green bonds, climate funds, and sustainability-linked loans are unlocking billions in capital for clean energy projects. Financial institutions are increasingly aligning with the Paris Agreement through frameworks like GFANZ and TCFD.

The transition is not without challenges: geopolitical tensions, supply chain vulnerabilities for rare earth materials, and energy affordability remain key issues. However, the shared commitment to innovation, technology transfer, and regional cooperation is accelerating progress.

In this context, the Global Sustainable Energy Forum 2025 (GSEF 2025) will serve as a catalyst for multi-stakeholder collaboration—uniting governments, investors, innovators, and civil society to shape a cleaner, smarter, and more inclusive global energy future.
